Timing, testing, fermentation and maturation is critical to producing a superior product and that’s exactly what award-winning Dunkertons Organic Cider is.
For nearly forty years Ivor and Susie Dunkerton (parents of Julian, the Superdry Founder) have been making premium organic cider and perry crafted in artisan spirit and vision. Using distinctive flavoured cider apples and perry pears they hand blend the juices using skills and techniques lost over time to the advances and pressures of mass production.
Seasonality plays a big part in the process as they harvest the fruit annually from September to December and deliver it to the cidery in Gloucestershire. They press the fruit and pump the juice to vats for the natural fermentation process to begin which can take anything up to a year to finish. The longer the juice is left – the richer the depth of the flavour and the more superior the product.
It’s easy to get your hands on the cider too – there’s a beautiful shop and marquee bar in Cheltenham in the fabulous Dowdeswell Park. Post-Lockdown there will continue to be regular events taking place and a loyalty scheme so it’s worth checking into the website to see what’s on. Opening hours are 10am until 6pm from Monday to Saturday and then on Sunday from 10am until 5pm. There is also a free collection service and for a limited time there’s free delivery on orders over £30. What’s not to love?
