Two of the hottest young stars in the world of BMX performance cycling and snowboarding will be Rocking the Cotswolds at Round 3 of the ASDA StreetVelodrome series this weekend in Stockton on Tees.
Rock the Cotswolds is sponsoring a cycling team in this thrilling cycling competition – the world’s only pop-up track racing series.
BMX record holder Matti Hemmings and Olympic snowboarder Zoe Gillings-Brier will take to the track for glory in our fabulous Rock the Cotswolds colours.
We’re over the moon that Matti and Zoe are riding for our team. He’s a TV star, in the Guinness book of records and has won world BMX titles. Zoe is Britain’s No 1 Olympic Snowboard Cross athlete. It’s a real coup for us to secure them as riders.
Matti is the top performer of modern BMX freestyle (commonly referred to as Flatlands, when performed at low speed, almost like a ballet on a bike, or Park when performed at higher speed using ramps to create greater elevation). Zoe has represented TeamGB at three Winter olympic games, won world and European cup podiums and is currently training towards her fourth Olympic Games in South Korea in 2018. Zoe is also a brand ambassador for Cirencester based Mitsubishi Motors.
StreetVelodrome visits towns during the summer months with a pop-up track cycling circuit. Participants compete in Olympic style track racing held over the 90-metres or so circuit, cheered on by local crowds, with gold, silver and bronze medals on offer to the best teams on the day.
Launched in the UK in 2014, the StreetVelodrome Series is growing in global popularity, with series in countries such as Barbados, South Africa, the USA and India. The 2015 UK series is televised on BT Sport and British Eurosport.
The StreetVelodrome series enables amateur riders to compete, for free, against elite and Olympic riders with racing bikes, helmets and coaching provided.
The next 2015 StreetVelodrome takes place on July 12 at Stockton on Tees, Lowestoft (July 18 & 19), Worthing (August 1 & 2), Ealing (August 8) before completing the series in Broadgate, the City of London on 12 & 13 August.
TV sports commentator, Jill Douglas, is supporting the series and we’ll also be fielding a local team, all from CrossFitCirencester, later in the series!
